Several people are feared dead after a commercial truck veered off the road and rammed into vehicles parked on the roadside at Dundori trading centre in Nakuru County on Thursday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses said the lorry, which was coming from Nyahururu side, first hit a power pole before ploughing into vehicles and tens of small-scale traders at the market.

It remains unclear what resulted in the commercial vehicle hurtling off the road.

Police arrived at the scene Thursday afternoon to help in rescue operation.

At least ten vehicles were mangled in the accident, eyewitnesses said.

The Kenya Power has announced that electricity supply in Dundori and its environs has been cut off after a fire broke out at the trading centre following the crash.

"We have switched off [the power connection] as a public safety measure," said Kenya Power in a statement to K24 Digital.

Besides Dundori, the other areas affected by the power outage include: Ngorika, Umoja and Wanyororo neighbourhoods.

More soon.
