A youthful man who on September 7, 2019 insulted Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli on Facebook has been sentenced to three years in jail, or alternatively pay a Tsh5 million (Ksh230, 000) fine.

Fadhili Silwimba, a resident of Nzoka Village in Momba District, Songwe Region, was found guilty of the offence by a Songwe Region court on Tuesday, August 4.

Resident Magistrate in Charge, Kassim Mkwawa, said he found Silwimba guilty of misusing the internet contrary to Section 23(Parts 1 and 2) of Tanzania’s cyber laws enacted in 2015.

The State prosecutor, Flavian Leonard Chacha, told the court that the suspect committed the offence on September 7, 2019.
