A middle-aged woman was among the 29 people rescued from a sunk building in Tassia, Embakasi East in Nairobi by Friday evening.
The woman had spent at least ten hours trapped under the broken stones. Her 1-month old baby, however, was among the four victims (two adults and two children) who lost their lives in the Friday incident. The baby’s body was pulled out of the rubbles by KDF officers Friday evening.
Embakasi Assistant County Commissioner, James Wanyoike, told K24 Digital that the rescued tragedy-victims were taken to different hospitals in Nairobi County.

Wanyoike said relatives had reported 30 people as missing.
“The rescue and body-retrieval operation continues overnight,” said Wanyoike.
Nairobi Regional Commissioner, Wilson Njenga, had earlier Friday told K24 Digital that a multi-agency team, comprising the Kenya Defence Forces, the disaster management unit, the Kenya Road Cross, among others, were on the ground aiding in rescue and body-retrieval operations.
Njenga said preliminary investigations indicated that the six-storey building that had 56 units came tumbling down at 8am due to structural defects.
The building’s caretaker told K24 Digital that the structure began showing signs of imminent collapse on Thursday, December 5.
“We asked the occupants to vacate the building when we saw the danger signs,” he said.
The Kenya Red Cross erected a tent near the scene, where relatives of the victims were directed to give information in regard to their trapped kinspeople.
